The Nebraska Cornhuskers did not finish the season too strong. they lost to the Iowa Hawkeyes 40 – 10. Nebraska lost at all three phases of the game. The offensive players were not on the same page, the defense could not get off the field, and special teams were not so special. To me it seemed like the team did not have any heart or the emotions of the season finally drained them. Tommy Armstrong’s hamstring definitely was bothering him when he tried to run the ball. He was also having issues with the passing game. Armstrong was 13-35 passing for 125 yards and 1 touchdown.
The 2016 season felt like the opposite of the 2015 season. Last year Nebraska started out bad then finished the season strong. This year the Huskers started the season 7-0 and then sputtered to the finish line, with embarrassing losses to Ohio State and Iowa. The national media questioned the huskers when they were ranked in the top 10 earlier in the season. They had every right to! The players thought it was a sign of disrespect and wanted to prove everyone wrong. They had every chance to do that but instead proved that the national media was right. Nebraska was a middle of the pack team and still are a ways behind the good teams of the Big Ten.
Now on to the bowl game and recruiting. Nebraska will probably be playing an SEC team around New Years Eve. A major bowl is out of the question at this point. They need to finish strong by winning there and then also finish strong in recruiting for the 2017 season. It sounds like the Huskers are out of contention for Darnay Holmes, the 5 star stud from Calabasas. If turns out to be untrue and also are still able to pull in Joseph Lewis or even get one of those 2 players then the recruiting season will be considered a success.
I hope the Huskers finish strong this year and let the seniors ride high into the sunset! Lets hope they can combine the successes of this year and last year so that they can play for something bigger in the near future.
